Blog Editor’s Note: Lots of steps this week in the dance between the UK and EU. We have been on the verge of posting something about it several times. This seems like the end of this phase, though, so a good time to recap, which this article does.

We understand from a tech point of view, PNT from OneWeb is not a slam dunk. This, despite the claims of OneWeb’s CTO in the article that precise time can be provided without modifying satellites and plans.

This is certainly a claim that UK politicians would want to believe. Let’s hope wishful thinking and national pride are not taking the place of technological rigor.

We shall see. This might be the end of a chapter, but it’s not the end of the story.

Stay tuned.

Galileo replacement gets green light after UK snubbed EU return: ‘Not spending millions’

PLANS for a UK Galileo alternative appear to have been given the green light after the EU extended an olive branch to the UK over possibly rejoining the project.

The UK was kicked out of the EU’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) when it left the bloc. But Timo Pesonen, head of the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space of the European Commission seemed to open the door for the UK to return. Speaking in June, Mr Pesonen told a briefing in Brussels: “The EU is open to negotiate with the UK on its participation in the EU space programmes. The ball is in London, not here.”

What Can YOU Do? How Can YOU Help?

PNT is the quiet backbone of everything but too many leaders still don’t see the risk.

But you do. You understand the systems, the dependencies, the failure chains. That insight is rare — and it’s exactly what your country needs right now. Contact your government leaders and industry decision-makers and tell them resilient PNT isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation everything else depends on.
