Blog Editor’s Note: Thanks to Guy Buesnel for pointing out the most recent press on GPS jamming and car theft (this time it is a report from India). We highly recommend Guy’s Linkedin GNSS Vulnerabilities group.
As our regular readers know, this is just the latest in a series of anecdotal reports and government warnings about this issue over the last several years. We have included a few links to prior reports below.
‘Fast and Furious’: Indian car thieves resort to GPS ‘jammers’ to steal vehicles
Updated: Nov 13, 2017 | 23:32 IST | Times Now Digital
New Delhi: Feeling safe knowing that your car has an inbuilt GPS tracker to locate it in the event of a carjacking? Well, think again.
In what appears to be taken straight out of the Fast and Furious franchise, car thieves in the city have resorted to using ‘GPS jammers’ to block the GPS tracker signal emanating from a vehicle.
Agents of the Anti-Auto Theft Squad suspect that these portable, battery-operated devices might also be used during a kidnapping or other crimes involving GPS-enabled taxis.
