Blog Editor’s Note: GPS signals already contribute to efficient spectrum use. Precise GPS timing enables multiplexing, simultaneous use of the same frequency by multiple users.

This application allows 5G transmitters to determine if their physical surroundings shield them enough from other transmitters that they can use the same frequency without interfering with each other. – Pretty clever.

Folks just keep on finding ways our essential GPS signals can be used, making them even more essential!

So we really need to ensure they aren’t interfered with accidentally or on purpose – including legally authorized emissions from out of band.

DOD authorizes GPS signal processing for 5G shared spectrum

April 13, 2022  – By

The Defense Spectrum Office (DSO) of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has contracted iPosi Inc. and Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation (VT-ARC) to develop a GPS/GNSS system to measure radio frequency path loss that substantially increases shared spectrum without interference.

The contract addresses the need for increased shared spectrum between DOD and wireless providers who require expanded access because of skyrocketing demand for broadband 5G spectrum.

What Can YOU Do? How Can YOU Help?

PNT is the quiet backbone of everything but too many leaders still don’t see the risk.

But you do. You understand the systems, the dependencies, the failure chains. That insight is rare — and it’s exactly what your country needs right now. Contact your government leaders and industry decision-makers and tell them resilient PNT isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation everything else depends on.
