What’s New: An especially inexpensive, and perhaps especially effective, way to counter/greatly mitigate drone comm link jamming.

Why It’s Important:  

  • As the article says, electronic warfare tends to be a game of ‘cat-and-mouse’ where one side will have an advantage for a while and then lose it when the other side counters and has an advantage.
  • The article indicates that both sides are now relying on video versus GNSS for navigation. 

What Else to Know:

  • Relatively inexpensive equipment is also available to greatly mitigate GNSS jamming. We wonder if that has already been employed and then countered by smart jamming, spoofing, meaconing, etc.

Now a Russian group claims to have developed a ‘magic radio’ for FPVs which is highly resistant to jamming. A physicist with the handle DanielR evaluated the device minutely in a detailed Twitter thread.
