What’s new: Congressman Fulcher (R, ID) wrote to FCC Chair Carr saying:

  • “As you know, China and Russia have developed and are deploying back up, terrestrial systems. Once again, we are lagging.”
  • “The FCC has heard from various companies that they have new terrestrial-based technologies and systems they believe could help provide better PNT and serve as a system-of-systems back up to GPS.”
  •  “I encourage you to move forward from the NOI effort to an NPRM that will allow America’s great innovators to prove their technologies, work out potential interference issues and give the country the backup President Trump realized was necessary years ago.

Why it is important:

  • It is always important when leaders put pen to paper on this issue.
  • Rep. Fulcher is a member of the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, the group that oversees the FCC.

What else to know:

  • We are gratified about his mention of various companies with technologies.
  • We are not so sure an NPRM is the right way to proceed for a whole-of-government approach. That is what Chair Carr says he wants, and, based on the history of this issue, is the only way it seems anything can succeed.

What Can YOU Do? How Can YOU Help?

PNT is the quiet backbone of everything but too many leaders still don’t see the risk.

But you do. You understand the systems, the dependencies, the failure chains. That insight is rare — and it’s exactly what your country needs right now. Contact your government leaders and industry decision-makers and tell them resilient PNT isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation everything else depends on.
