What’s new: An article expressing concerns that the U.S. administration might deny access to GPS as a part of its efforts to influence the behavior of other nations and their officials.

Why it’s important:

  • Such concerns could drive nations and users away from GPS and the U.S. and towards Bei Dou and China. This would have numerous adverse impacts for U.S. tech and geopolitical leadership.
  • GPS has been America’s gift to the world for more than three decades. If the administration were to rescind the gift, or even threaten to rescind it, that would create mistrust of America globally.

What else to know:

  • We advocate that every nation have its own, sovereign sources of PNT that can cooperate with but don’t depend on, GNSS. The UK and South Korea are good examples of nations doing this.

  • This is not the first time we have see such concerns published. See the article in the Economist  from May of this year.
  • We would not be surprised if the below article was sponsored by Chinese officials as a way to drive a wedge between Brazil and the U.S.

What Can YOU Do? How Can YOU Help?

PNT is the quiet backbone of everything but too many leaders still don’t see the risk.

But you do. You understand the systems, the dependencies, the failure chains. That insight is rare — and it’s exactly what your country needs right now. Contact your government leaders and industry decision-makers and tell them resilient PNT isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation everything else depends on.
