What’s New: RNT Foundation friend and former Platts and Fortune Magazine reporter Katherine Dunn is under contract to author “Right Here, Right Now.” She says it will be a social and political history of GPS for a popular, layperson audience.
Why It’s Important:
- There has been a lot of writing about the technical and operational history of GPS. Not so much about what it has done for and to us, and how it has changed everything.
- Katherine is interested in hearing stories that you think relate to her “social and political history” for GPS. Feel free to reach out to her at katmagdunn [at] gmail [dot] com.
What Else to Know:
- Katherine has written extensively about GPS and impacts over the years. Some examples:
- Bloomsbury will publish the book and says it “…tells the story of how GPS technology, created by the U.S. military in the 1970s for use in bombing missions, ‘has become a daily necessity upon which the world has become dangerously reliant.’ The book is set for a late 2026 publication.”
- We are already planning to have Katherine over for a book signing!
