About the Event

Since 2019, scores of short bursts of interference have disrupted GNSS signals across continental Europe, Greenland, and Canada. In June 2026, the University of Texas Radionavigation Lab traced them to the Edinaya Kosmicheskaya Sistema (EKS), a Russian early warning constellation in Molniya ("lightning") orbits. The findings were covered by The New York Times and SpaceNews. Since then, analysis of the EKS signals has produced further clues about the constellation's capabilities and secondary purposes.

Hear it first-hand from the researchers Dr. Todd Humphreys and Dr. Zak Clements, as they present "Chasing and Decoding Lightning: Analysis of GNSS Interference from Russian Satellites."

The Institute of Navigation (ION) and the Resilient Navigation and Timing Foundation (RNTF) are co-hosting the evening, which also marks the launch of ION’s DC Section. Attendees will hear plans for the section, and nominations for officers will be taken from the floor.
