What’s new: Official cancellation of the OCX program.

Why it’s important: Space Force can stop futzing with as system that has already consumed far too much time and money and move on with improving AEP, the current ground system, and finding other alternatives.

What else to know:

  • At CGSIC yesterday one of the morning presentations was Mr. Bruno Mediate speaking about “GPS Architecture and Questions.”  He did very well reframing the first part of his presentation on the fly as a result of the hours-old announcement about OCX.
  • The consensus in the room seemed to be that the cancellation was long overdue. Though most were concerned what it meant for setting L5 healthy.
  • Mr. Mediate said Space Force and DOT were particularly focused on L5 and working together. He discussed a number of things that needed to be addressed to set it healthy. He projected that we would see L5 FOC in 2030.
  • We understand that L5 might be set healthy before FOC and hope to get more detail and clarity on plans to share with you in the next several weeks.

Mr. Mediate’s presentation, along with all the presentations at CGSIC, will be posted on line within the next few work days. We expect they will be at this GPS.gov site.
