What’s new: Continuing discussion of PNT and cyber. While interference with signals (jamming, spoofing, meaconing) is a cyber attack, GNSS receivers and other PNT equipment are also IT devices which can be interfered via other cyber vectors.

Why it’s important: PNT is an essential capability that must be protected as much as possible.

What else to know:

  • PNT, cyber, and how things fit together is not a sterile discussion. Assignments, workload, funding, and other resources all depend on these kinds of definitions.
  • This is another example of how the government in failing to focus on PNT has exposed a seam of vulnerability for both federal and civil systems.
  • Here is a posting from our member Stephen Dye on the topic from last fall:

What Can YOU Do? How Can YOU Help?

PNT is the quiet backbone of everything but too many leaders still don’t see the risk.

But you do. You understand the systems, the dependencies, the failure chains. That insight is rare — and it’s exactly what your country needs right now. Contact your government leaders and industry decision-makers and tell them resilient PNT isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation everything else depends on.
