New Company for Broadcast Positioning System – NAB

What’s new: The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has formed a separate company to develop, advocate for, and deploy the Broadcast Positioning System (BPS).

Why it’s important: NAB has put increasing effort behind BPS since its inception in 2021. This latest change will provide even more focus to advancing the system.

What else to know:

  • NAB is a non-profit association. The new entity, Merkhet Solutions, is a for-profit company.

  • The staff of the new company includes:

    • Sam Matheny, Chief Executive Officer 

    • Tariq Mondal, Chief Technology Officer

    • George Molnar, Director, Advanced Television Engineering 

    • Cathie Glover, Administrative Coordinator

Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) today announced the launch of Merkhet Solutions, Inc., an independent company focused on the commercial deployment of the Broadcast Positioning System (BPS™). BPS, first conceived by the technology team at NAB in 2021, is a patented terrestrial, GPS-independent timing and positioning technology that leverages the high-power, geographically diverse broadcast infrastructure already covering the United States.
