What’s new: Interesting refresher article about activity in the Baltic. A good reminder that it is still happening.
Why it is important: Interference with GPS/GNSS is happening far beyond what is needed for defense of the Russian homeland. It is clearly a form of low intensity conflict, great power competition, and Putin just thumbing his nose at the west.
What else to know: The short article makes a reference to Russian fighter jets “traveling through NATO airspace.” We are not sure of the significance. Are the jets not transmitting ADS-B? Is the interference impacting ADS-B service for those jets the way it does with commercial aircraft? We looked at the Danish media source referenced but could not find anything.
Russian jamming creates ‘Bermuda Triangle’ in Baltic
Russian jamming of GPS signals is suspected to be the cause behind a new “Bermuda Triangle” of navigation confusion in the eastern Baltic Sea.
In the Gulf of Finland, ships are disappearing from radar and Russian fighter jets are traveling through NATO airspace, according to Danwatch, a Danish news outlet.
