What’s new: We heard back from the FAA yesterday about our GPS interference report (see yesterday’s post)  the SAME DAY – and it was a SUNDAY!  They said the GPS interference the aircraft we were traveling on experienced was likely from a NOTAMed military exercise.

Why it’s important:

  • It is great to know the FAA has a team that is right on top of these issues, regardless of the day of the week. We filed the report on Saturday and they responded on Sunday!
  • GPS interference can severely disrupt air traffic causing delays and longer routes. It can also impact aviation safety.

What else to know:

  • The report feedback we received was preliminary. The FAA team is going to collaborate with their interagency partners to further analyze the event.
  • Check out the graphic that shows how far from the source the interference can impact aviation (depending on flight level).

  • James Aviles, the senior engineer who responded to our report, is an outstanding public servant who has long been in the fight against interference with GPS signals. Thanks for all you do, James!

What Can YOU Do? How Can YOU Help?

PNT is the quiet backbone of everything but too many leaders still don’t see the risk.

But you do. You understand the systems, the dependencies, the failure chains. That insight is rare — and it’s exactly what your country needs right now. Contact your government leaders and industry decision-makers and tell them resilient PNT isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation everything else depends on.
