What’s New: A podcast by Texas Transportation Institute Agency Director and CEO, Hon. Greg Winfree, discussing GPS as an under-appreciated, silent utility.

Why It’s Important: GPS is America’s primary source for positioning, navigation, and timing services which are essential to every form of modern transportation. Yet weak, open GPS signals are easily denied or imitated.

What Else to Know:

  • Near the beginning of the podcast Mr. Winfree mentions that GPS began as a Coast Guard program. GPS was an Air Force program that is now the responsibility of Space Force. What he intended to say was that Differential GPS was a Coast Guard program.

  • Greg is the Chairman of the Board for the RNT Foundation.

But you do. You understand the systems, the dependencies, the failure chains. That insight is rare — and it's exactly what your country needs right now. Contact your government leaders and industry decision-makers and tell them resilient PNT isn't a feature — it's the foundation everything else depends on.
