What’s New: An especially inexpensive, and perhaps especially effective, way to counter/greatly mitigate drone comm link jamming.

Why It’s Important:  

  • As the article says, electronic warfare tends to be a game of ‘cat-and-mouse’ where one side will have an advantage for a while and then lose it when the other side counters and has an advantage.
  • The article indicates that both sides are now relying on video versus GNSS for navigation. 

What Else to Know:

  • Relatively inexpensive equipment is also available to greatly mitigate GNSS jamming. We wonder if that has already been employed and then countered by smart jamming, spoofing, meaconing, etc.

FPV drones are a signature weapon of the Ukraine conflict, and jammers to stop them are a matter of life and death. Both sides have fielded jammers and drone guns firing a beam of radio waves to knock out drone communications, said to take out thousands of drones a month. Now a Russian group claims to have developed a ‘magic radio’ for FPVs which is highly resistant to jamming.
